Big Increase in all Inflammatory Bowel Disease

I gave some crohns graphs to the Advisory Committee for the Microbiological Safety of food some years ago. I also asked them when milk would be tested for MAP again, they said it would be tested but did not know when. It needs to be done now. I had been told informally that the reason crohns was increasing was improved diagnosis. I have produced a graph that shows that “other non infective colitis and enteritis” is increasing too. Does this mean that a lot of people have IBD and are not yet diagnosed?

Hospital Admissions for Ulcerative Colilis Increase as well

The blue lines show the number of hospital episodes in England and Wales with non infective colitis and enteritis.

Doctors find it very hard to decide if someone has crohns or ulcerative colitis. Maybe many of the hospital admissions shown by the blue lines, over 120,000 are IBD.

There are some new diagnostic tests coming out that may resolve this problem.

The red crohns graph is the same one as the previous page. The green one is ulcerative colitis. Both of these diseases have been linked to the MAP bug that used to be in milk.

We need more research now.

Crohns is more common in smokers. People are smoking less but more are going into hospital with it.

I have read that Ulcerative Colitis is far worse in non smokers. Will the recent smoking bans cause more people to go in hospital with it next year?  Research Money Needed Now!
