Letter From Greg Mulholland MP to Minister Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP on my Behalf! |
|
My MP Greg Mulholland, Liberal Democrat MP for Leeds North West is awaiting an answer to his letter to the minister, the letter is as follows:- Mr Alan L Procter: I am writing on behalf of my constituent on the issue of the link between the microbacterial safety of food and crohns disease. He recently contacted me and I would like to make enquiries on his behalf. I enclose a copy of his letter to me that fully details his concerns. Mr Procter, who has spent a great deal of time on this issue, is concerned that there is a causal link between a cow bug called MAP and crohns disease. He is campaigning for food to be tested for MAP, particularly meat and milk. My constituent is concerned about the latest hospital statistics for crohns disease. I understand from him that the hospital admissions for crohns disease have increased in the last 10 year period from 15,969 to 42,775, which is clearly alarming. I understand that DEFRA will be publishing herd prevalence figures for MAP, and my constituent would like to ask you to publish these figures without delay. I would be very grateful if you could look into my constituent’s call for food to be tested for MAP, and would appreciate your comments along with any additional information which you think may be of use. Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to your response. Greg Mulholland has repeated his letter and a response is awaited. Meanwhile Crohns Hospital admissions in England and Wales have increased to 50,188 in 2008/2009 so I better go and see Greg soon to see if he can help?
